Counselling and Wild Therapy
Trauma-informed careCardiff and the Vale

WELCOME
My name is Gina.I offer counselling for adults, often men, experiencing the impact of unresolved trauma. This may relate to difficult childhood experiences, abuse or neglect, bereavement or loss, military service, discrimination distress, neurodivergent masking and burnout, life-altering events, or environments where emotional needs were not safely met.Often, people come to therapy feeling exhausted from coping alone or trying to hold everything together. On the surface, they may appear capable and emotionally contained, or experience sudden emotional overwhelm that feels difficult to understand or control, while internally struggling with anxiety, depression, shame, anger, grief, emotional disconnection, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, hypervigilance, flashbacks, physical tension, addiction, burnout, or a persistent sense of feeling stuck. The people I work with have often spent years adapting to survive difficult experiences, disconnecting from emotions, struggling with emotional overwhelm, staying busy, engaging in self harm or self sabotage to cope, masking parts of themselves, becoming highly self-critical, or losing touch with what they really need.Therapy can offer space to slow down, make sense of these patterns, and begin relating to yourself differently.
My Training
I completed a four year Humanistic Existential counsellor training, accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, followed by a one-year practitioner training in Wild Therapy (as developed by Nick Totton).Alongside both, I bring more than ten years’ experience working with somatic and body-based approaches to self-exploration and expression, and over three years' experience working in trauma-informed environments.
My Approach
I work in a person-centred existential way, focusing on how you relate to yourself, other people, and the world around you.Together, we explore patterns, ways of coping, and beliefs that may once have helped you survive but no longer serve you.My approach is grounded and collaborative. I aim to create a space where you can speak openly without pressure to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or have everything figured out. Many people I work with have spent years adapting to survive difficult experiences, disconnecting from or becoming overwhelmed by emotions, staying busy, masking parts of themselves, becoming highly self-critical, or losing touch with what they need. Therapy can offer space to slow down, make sense of these patterns, and begin relating to yourself differently.Alongside talking therapy, I draw on somatic approaches and awareness of the nervous system, recognising that difficult experiences are often held in the body as well as the mind.Woven through my practice is Wild Therapy, an ethos that deepens the work. It runs through all sessions, whether indoors or outdoors, and is less about the setting itself and more about a willingness, and courage, to look at things honestly, step outside familiar patterns, explore the edges of experience, and gently uncover what may have been pushed aside. If you choose to work outdoors, nature becomes part of the process, offering space, perspective, and a different way of engaging with your thoughts, feelings, and experience. At times, I may gently challenge you, not to push you, but to encourage awareness, curiosity, and movement where things may feel stuck.Wherever you’re starting from, we work at your pace. You do not need to arrive with the right words or a clear understanding of what is wrong.Turning up as you are is enough.

Client Feedback
"Gina has a wisdom and strength which makes you feel anything you bring will be accepted.I loved being able to move through grief, fear, and humour in a single session, which made me feel lighter and heard".
"Gina has helped me to feel calmer and more connected to myself.I would recommend Gina to anyone who would like compassion from their counsellor in conjunction with a body based approach".
“I found Gina to be incredibly perceptive, noting when I want to step over something to avoid an issue. She always has one eye the wild, to tune into the place where we are“.
"Right from my first session with Gina, I found her to be deeply connected, a solid presence, and I could tell she was truly truly hearing me.She even created a safe enough space to begin to gently challenge some of my old stories, using a movement exercise outdoors to push against a tree and feel into its resistance (which makes more sense given my material!). I found her to bedeeply intuitive, brave enough to take some risks and at the same time incredibly warm.Thank you Gina".
"I've worked with Gina for a year and have found her to be a gently powerful, empathetic, and authentic outdoor therapist. Gina has helped me with some personal challenges that have touched me deeply and helped me to integrate old hurt presented in a current situation. As a lesbian, I've felt totally comfortable with Gina and she has helped me work through some challenges of the heart. Physical embodied activities in nature have have helped reveal aspects of myself more clearly.I know that nature is part of us and provides a multitude of opportunities for us to feel better. I would highly reccommend Gina as an indoor and outdoor therapist".
